Golden Orb Spiders (Nephila madagascariensis) spin a naturally gold silk, which English textile expert Simon Peers [left] and US designer Nicholas Godley [right] used to create this beautiful pure silk cape, decorated with intricate patterning inspired by 19th Century illustrations including, of course, spiders. 13ft in length, the cape is undyed but still a vibrant yellow and is described as softer and lighter than silk produced by silkworms.
The cape in on display at London’s Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum until June 5th this year.
