'Imagination is not only the uniquely human capacity to envision that which is not, and therefore the fount of all invention and innovation. In its arguably most transformative and revelatory capacity, it is the power that enables us to empathise with humans whose experiences we have never shared.' J. K. Rowling

The Cave lies in the Valley of the Pinturas River, to the south of Perito Moreno town, featuring one of the most important archaeological paintings of Patagonia. More than 9,300 years old, these caves are spread over the valley. The images of hands are often negative. Besides these images, there are also depictions of human beings, hunting scenes, geometric symbols, snakes and other pictures related to fertility, rituals and animal footprints. The images of hands are not painted on the walls, but on the upper rocks, suggesting that hunters must have placed their hands on the cave ceilings and then covered them with paint.

The tilt shift lens, often used in architectural photography, is fun to use for rendering actual settings into scale-model worlds in which people look like toy figures. Because you’re altering the planes of focus and drawing the eye to a narrow area of the photograph, a specific point of interest must be included. In this image, the two small figures walking through the “maze” are essential elements. - Catherine Karnow
